Monroe's season ends in 12th

MONROE - The Monroe Brewers ended its Home Talent season with a 12-inning, 4-3 loss to Platteville in the second round of the Sunday League playoffs.

"It's a tough loss," said co-player/manager Rooney Janecke.

Reliever Ben Korth was tagged with the loss after Platteville's Trevor Kattre reached on an error in the 12th. Kattre then stole second and went to third on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly by Jake Green plated the final run.

Korth threw five innings in relief, striking out two, walking two and giving up two hits. Cody Boals started the game for Monroe, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs - two earned - on five hits, five strikeouts and four walks.

Monroe scored a run on in the first inning on an RBI by Scott White. Mike Cleary plated two runners in the eighth to tie the game at 3.

Platteville scored one run in the sixth after a Kattre double. Kattre singled in a run during Platteville's two-run seventh.

Brandon Byrne pitched all 12 innings for Platteville, striking out 12 and allowing six hits, three walks and just one earned run. Burns also hit three batters.
