MONROE - Four area girls are going to the state meet after a tough sectional at Twining Park on Friday.

Three runners for the Brodhead-Juda girls cross country team and one from Monroe are headed to the WIAA Division 2 state meet. The rain posed a challenge, adding mud and slippery spots to the course, but Brodhead-Juda's Taylor Bluemel, Cora Purdue and Madee Harding and Monroe's Jordan Hirsbrunner overcame the elements on their trek to the finish line.

Hirsbrunner placed ninth overall. The junior covered the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 2.4 seconds.

"It feels pretty good," Hirsbrunner said. "I wanted to go out faster than normal. It went OK, and I'm just glad we did well as a team. We all did it together."

Monroe coach David Hirsbrunner watched his daughter battle season-long sickness and felt overwhelming pride as she qualified to run at the state meet.

"Our girls team ran super," Hirsbrunner said. "To have (Jordan) do what she did is unbelievable. To do what she just did is incredible. I'm proud of her from a coaching standpoint, and obviously, thrilled to death from a parent standpoint."

The Cheesemakers placed fifth as a team with 133 points. Lodi won the sectional with 61 points and McFarland placed second with 68 points. Both teams qualified for state.

McFarland junior Brooke Lonigro was the individual winner in 19:36.4.

For the Cardinals, Bluemel was the first individual qualifier to cross the finish line. Though the team finished in fourth place with 107 points, the senior claimed second in 19:53.1. Purdue was fourth in 19:58.4, and Harding was seventh in 20:02.1.

"It's an amazing feeling," Bluemel said. "I was

questioning whether or not I would go as an individual, so to go with two teammates is just amazing to me. I'm so proud of them."

Each runner attributed their supportive base of parents, coaches and other supporters to their success.

"We're really proud to support our community and show that we're good," Purdue said.

Also for Brodhead-Juda, senior Danielle Dieckhoff finished 36th in 21:56.9, and sophomore Morgan Tresemer was 58th in 23:11.1.

Monroe's second finisher was sophomore Rachel Meier, who placed 10th in 20:11.8, followed by senior Kayla Einbeck (24th in 21:18.5), junior Allyce Fahrney (43rd in 22:22.8) and sophomore Kati Symons (47th in 22:29.8).

The state meet will take place Oct. 31 at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
