VIROQUA - The Monroe boys track team will run for a fourth state championship in the last five years in the 3,200 relay after winning a sectional championship in that event Friday.

The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Dylan Scace, Thang Lu, Jonah Tostrud and Cody Faust won the 3,200 relay with a season-best time of 8 minutes, 8.73 seconds, which was about three seconds faster than Dodgeville-Mineral Point.

"They dominated the field," Monroe boys track coach Curt Miller said. "They all ran their season-best times at the same time. I think they still have more in them for next week."

West Salem won the sectional championship clipping Lodi 69-59. Sugar River finished fourth place (46) and Brodhead-Juda took ninth place (29). Monroe finished 21st (13) out of 30 teams.

Brodhead-Juda senior Logan Maurer won sectional championships in the shot put (52 feet, 5 inches) and discus (171-2). Sugar River junior Landon Zimmerman is also moving on to state after taking third place in the discus (163-10). Maurer is the defending state champion in both the shot put and discus.

Sugar River senior Colton Boley won a sectional title in the 300 hurdles (40.07) and senior teammate Mike Fink took third in the shot put (50-2 1/4). Sugar River's 400 relay team of Cade Martin, Nick Smith, Ryan Hayes and Brandon Shemanski finished fourth place (44.44). Hayes also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 (23.30).

Sugar River junior Tyler Gilbertson just missed qualifying for state in the 1,600 taking fifth place (4:34.39). The Raiders' 800 relay team also took fifth (1:32.85).

Monroe junior Tyler Sobacki ran a season-best time (16.28) in the 110 high hurdles to take seventh place. Monroe freshman Brayden Zettle had a personal-record 41 feet, 5 1/2 inches in the triple jump for eighth place.

"Brayden has been making progress and I'm excited about the potential he has for the future," Miller said.
