JANESVILLE - The Monroe wrestling team had four wrestlers go unbeaten to lead the Cheesemakers to a second-place finish at the Janesville Parker Invitational Saturday.

Monroe sophomore Patrick Rielly at 152 pounds, senior Dempzy Foley (182), sophomore Bodie Minder (220) and senior Tyson Welsch (heavyweight) each went 5-0. Monroe went 4-1 in dual matches and finished second to Kenosha Bradford, which went 5-0.

Rielly, wrestling at 152 and 160 pounds, posted five pins. Minder had four pins and won one match by forfeit. Both Foley and Welsch each racked up three pins and won two matches by forfeit.

Monroe coach Tom Witt said he's hoping a win over Random Lake, a Division 3 state qualifier last year, and a late win over Edgerton will show the Cheesemakers how strong they can be in dual matches this season. The Cheesemakers also had a close match against Kenosha Bradford, a state team qualifier in 2016, come down to the end Saturday.

"Our goal is to be at 100 percent and ready for the regional," Witt said. "This is one step in that process."

Monroe rolled to a 70-6 win over the Milton Reserves and defeated Milwaukee Hamilton 54-21. Kenosha Bradford defeated the Cheesemakers 45-36.

Rielly pinned Kenosha Bradford junior Marco Infusino, who was a Division 1 state qualifier last year at 138.

"That's the closest we have ever been against them," Witt said of Kenosha Bradford, which is a Division 1 school. "Patrick Rielly beat one of their state qualifiers from last year, and Travis Wolf wrestled a good match and he had the lead 6-5 going into the third period."

Wolf got caught in a

cradle in the third period and was pinned.

"That was a 9-point swing," Witt said.

Monroe slipped by Random Lake 42-39. It came down to the final match, and Wolf (160) just had to make sure he didn't get pinned. He lost 7-2 but did his job in helping the Cheesemakers.

"He (Wolf) was wrestling a state champion from last year," Witt said. "When the match got over, he was happy as heck because he knew he did his job against Random Lake."

Monroe ended the day by clipping Edgerton 42-36. The match against the Crimson Tide also came down to the final match, and Rielly's pin sealed the win for the Cheesemakers.

Monroe senior Sam Kind (170) and sophomore Dakota Wickstrum (106) each went 4-1. Sophomore Julian Gruber (195) finished the day 3-2. The only loss for Kind came from Kenosha Bradford's Jake Deates, 3-1. Dietz finished fourth at the Division 1 state wrestling meet last year.

"I think we had a great day," Witt said. "We know we have tough matches coming against Milton and Stoughton."

Monroe's dual match against Stoughton, which was slated for Friday, has been moved to Jan. 12. Monroe will wrestle in the Raider Scramble Saturday in Belleville.
