DEFOREST - The Cheesemaker soccer team finished the DeForest Quad with a 1-1 record Saturday, losing to Sheboygan South, 2-1, and beating the host Norskies, 4-0.
In the opener, Mike Gross scored Monroe's only goal at 70 minutes, 43 seconds. However, Sheboygan South had scored its two goals in the 59th and 66th minutes.
"I was very pleased with our players' effort against such a hard team," Monroe head coach Tony Stamm said. "Sheboygan held the ball most of the game.
"We had some opportunities throughout the game, but couldn't get anything into the net."
Against DeForest, Monroe dominated from the start.
Junior Matt Bodeau scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Andrew Aurit, at the 16:28 mark.
In the second half, the Cheese-makers got on the board right away, as Gross knocked in a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
Godi Brandli scored in the 65th minute, assisted by Gross. Kelli Isaj capped off the scoring, knocking in a pass from Brandli in the 72nd minute.
"We played very good, very tough," Stamm said.
In other action Saturday, Sugar River dropped both of its games at the Raider Invite in Belleville. The Raiders lost to Berlin, 2-0, in the first game, then fell to Platteville, 3-1, in the consolation match. Lakeside Lutheran won the championship in a penalty kick.
