WAUNAKEE - The Monroe girls soccer team has now beat three of the top four teams in the Badger North.

Monroe won both games at the Badger Challenge on Saturday. Monroe sophomore Abbey Schneider had three assists and one goal to help spark the Cheesemakers to a 2-1 win over DeForest and a 3-1 win over Mount Horeb.

"I think they just went out there with not very much intensity in the first game," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "I think after that, they stepped up."

Monroe (11-5-3, 2-3-1 Badger South) got a goal from Schneider at 41 minutes, 2 seconds against DeForest. Freshman Chelsea Haffele scored a goal on an assist from Schneider at 52:50 for the game-winning goal.

Monroe junior goalkeeper Gail LaVoie had five saves.

The challenge matches corresponding finishers from each division of the Badger Conference.

In the second game against the Vikings, senior Erin Solawetz scored a goal at 5:15 to give the Cheesemakers an early lead. Fellow senior Catie Eiserman scored a goal on an assist from Schneider and Kylee Ritschard added a goal off a penalty kick.

LaVoie had five saves for the Cheesemakers.

"I think they are getting more confidence in their game against the good teams," O'Neill said.
