STOUGHTON - Sophomore Devon Boeck has competed on the biggest stage in club bowling at state. He turned in a solid performance Tuesday to help Monroe defeat Stoughton 163-168 at Stoughton Country Club.
With the way Boeck is golfing now, he may have a hand in developing Monroe into a state contender this year on the course. Boeck shot a 42 and was one of four golfers with scores at 7-over-par or less.
"It's great to see that," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said of Boeck. "He definitely has the potential to shoot well. He's been pretty consistent."
Monroe sophomore Nick Baumann shot a 3-over-38 to lead the Cheesemakers. Senior teammate Matt Miller carded a 41 and junior Tanner Thompson finished with a 42. With the win, Monroe improves to 2-2 badger South.
"I think it's a big boost for us," Rindy said of winning the second straight conference dual match. "It's a tough place to play golf."
Monroe will host perennial state contender Madison Edgewood at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Monroe Country Club.
"It's our home course and we will play the front nine," Rindy said. "We have to take advantage of that because we know the greens better. We just have to believe in ourselves and play smart. We just all have to have good rounds."
