Monroe topples Bullets

BLANCHARDVILLE - With about 200 people on hand for Father's Day at the ballpark, the Monroe Brewers continued the team's hot streak with a 6-2 win over the Bullets in Home Talent League action Sunday.

Monroe (7-2) has won six of its last seven games and took advantage of three Blanchardville errors to score three unearned runs.

"It was a good win for us," Brewers co-player manager Lon Scheuerell said, who went 2-for-4. "It keeps the momentum going for us."

The Brewers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Blanchardville pitcher Milton Kurschner. Scheuerell then went to steal second and got in a run down that allowed fellow player manager Rooney Janecke to score.

The Brewers broke the game open with a four-run third. Tyler Goninen walked and scored on a wild pitch. Scheuerell delivered an RBI single and Adam Siegenthaler had an RBI groundout. Ben Korth reached on an error and Scheuerell scored to give the Brewers a 5-0 lead.

Cody Boals pitched a complete game and gave up two runs on seven hits. He struck out five, walked two and hit two.

Devin Jeglum went 2-for-3 and Kurschner was 2-for-4 to lead Blanchardville.

Kurschner went the distance and gave up three earned runs on seven hits. He struck out eight, walked five and hit two.

Monroe will host Wiota in a Home Talent Night League game at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Brewers will play at New Glarus at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a Sunday league game.
