MONROE - The Monroe High School baseball team received a No. 4 regional seed and will host fifth-seeded Clinton in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal game at 5 p.m. May 25.
The top four seeds in the regional get a first-round home game.
"When you get to the seeding meeting it's tough because you have teams from other conferences," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "You have to find out what is equitable. I'm happy to have a home game. I don't know much about Clinton."
The Cheesemakers (5-13) knocked off Clinton 4-3 in a regional quarterfinal last year when senior Hogan Edwards struck out the final batter to preserve the victory.
"I think they have just as solid of a team as they did last year," Huffman said. "They have a good lefty (pitcher)."
Huffman said the Cheesemakers will probably send a coach or two to watch Clinton (2-10) play before the regional matchup.
If Monroe beats Clinton, the Cheesemakers will then play at top-seeded Beloit Turner, which is ranked second in Division 2 in the state, on May 30.
