Monroe tennis tumbles

WAUNAKEE - The Monroe High School girls tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Waunakee on Friday.

"Our stretch of tough matches continued tonight with Waunakee," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "Waunakee, just like Edgewood and Stoughton, has a legitimate shot at getting to team state this year. Those three teams are, in my opinion, considerably above the rest of the conference and we just had the misfortune of playing them back to back to back."

Only Eva Priewe at No. 1 singles, the No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Zweifel and Shannon Rabotski and the No. 3 doubles team of Maija Liimatainen and Morgan Quinn were even able to win one game in their matches.

"I give our girls credit because after these three tough matches they are still upbeat," Saugstad said.

"Our next three matches are against teams I consider to be in the middle of the pack in the conference. I want to believe that we are right there in the middle with Oregon, Monona Grove and Milton, and it will be up to the girls to prove that. We are a much better team than we were a few weeks ago, and I believe that the results are going to start showing that."
