Monroe takes two at Beaver Dam

BEAVER DAM - The Cheesemakers tennis team won two of three duals at the Beaver Dam Quadrangular on Saturday.

Monroe beat McFarland and Madison Memorial before falling to Beaver Dam.

In the 6-1 win over McFarland, the Cheesemakers' only loss came in the No. 1 singles, as Kristin McArdle fell to Hannah Polipnick, 6-4, 7-5.

Ellie Shuda topped Madeline Blankenship, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles, Kiera Berger dropped Abby Polipnick 3-6, 6-4 (10-3), and Alyssa Quinn beat Rebecca Funk 7-6 (2), 1-6, 10-8.

In doubles action, Ashley Hermanson and Kelsey Erickson won 6-4, 6-1; Taylor Weis and McKenzie Bruce won 6-1, 6-1 and Lily Priewe and Gwen Sutter picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Against Madison Memorial, the Cheesemakers took five of the seven matches. McArdle dominated in a 6-1, 6-2 win, and Shuda picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win. Berger fell 6-3, 6-2 and Quinn lost 6-3, 7-5 for Monroe's two losses.

On the double's side, Hermanson and Erickson rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory, Weis and Bruce won 6-3, 6-2 and Priewe and Sutter needed a tiebreaker to net a 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 win.

Against Beaver Dam, the Cheesemakers picked up just two victories including, Hermanson and Erickson at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 6-1), and Sutter and Emily Grossen in No. 3 doubles (6-4, 7-5). McArdle fell 7-5, 7-5, while Shuda lost 6-2, 6-1, Berger 6-0, 1-0 (default), and Quinn (6-4, 6-0). Weis and Bruce lost in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-4, 7-5.

The junior varsity team won all three duals, finishing with a 17-4 record overall.
