OREGON - The Monroe boys golf team finished seventh out of eight teams in the Badger South Conference season-opening mini meet at Foxboro Golf Course Tuesday.
Madison Edgewood, the defending WIAA Division 2 state champion and conference champion, rolled to the team title shooting a 330, which was 11 strokes better than runner-up Monona Grove (341). The Cheesemakers took seventh (383).
Monona Grove senior Jake Schroeckenthaler shot a 3-over-par 73 to take medalist honors. Monroe senior Collyn Wilde shot a team-best 89 for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe sophomore Noah Becker had the second-best round for the Cheesemakers, carding a 91. The other scores for Monroe include junior Jack Rogerson (92) and sophomore Connor Allen (111).
"We didn't play the best," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "A lot of people didn't shoot well because of the weather. It was cold and windy. I'm a little disappointed in our scores. It was our first round of 18 holes this year."
