EDGERTON - Monroe High School freshman Anthany Hernandez scored two goals to propel the Cheese-makers boys soccer team to a 5-1 win over Edgerton in a nonconference game Thursday.

"They put a lot of pressure on us like Evansville," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "We were able to play a little more confident and relaxed."

Monroe senior Niven Tomasiewicz scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute on an assist from junior Ryne Miller. Hernandez scored his first goal on an assist from junior Silas Setterstrom in the 20th minute. About 30 seconds later, Hernandez scored his second goal to give the Cheesemakers a 3-0 lead.

After averaging just one goal per game last year, the Cheesemakers (1-1) have scored eight goals in their first two games.

"It's really big," Vasquez said of Hernandez's goals. "Having someone who can help Niven takes the pressure off."

Monroe's Jacob Ritschard scored a goal on Miller's second assist in the 26th minute to give the Cheesemakers a 4-0 lead.

Miller scored a goal on an indirect kick in the second half to seal the win.

Monroe junior goalkeeper Atticus Pond had nine saves.

The Cheesemakers host the Monroe Quad Saturday. Monroe will play Richland Center at 10 a.m.
