MONROE - Junior Colton O'Connor scored a game-winning goal 44 seconds into overtime to give the Monroe boys hockey co-op team a 2-1 win over Greendale in the regular season finale Saturday at SLICE Arena.

O'Connor's game-winning goal came on assists from freshman Cade Janecke and sophomore Payton Stauffacher. With the win, Monroe improves to 4-18-2. The ninth-seeded Cheesemakers will play a regional game at eighth-seeded Stoughton Tuesday.

"It's fantastic," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "It's the first time we have ever beat Greendale. With them being the seventh seed in our sectional, it was a nice confidence booster."

The Cheesemakers started strong in the second period. Janecke scored a goal on an assist by Cooper Dryfus at 11 minutes, 8 seconds in the second. Geendale's Adam Doornbos scored a game-tying goal about 6 minutes later to tie the game at 1.

Monroe sophomore goaltender Heath Bear had 31. Both Monroe and Greendale had 39 shots on goal.
