MONROE - Both junior Natalie Dillon and senior Kari Jordan propelled Monroe to a comeback 6-3 win over Madison Edgewood Thursday at Twining Park to stay atop the Badger South Conference.
Dillon went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI and Jordan was 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Cheesemakers to the win. With the victory, Monroe stays atop the conference and improves to 5-2, 4-0 Badger South.
"We weren't perfect and we had some bad at-bats early on," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "They found a way to get it done."
Edgewood scored two runs off Dillon in the first inning. The Cheesemakers answered with a three-run third off Edgewood pitcher Kaitlyn Harrington. Monroe freshman Alysha Witt was hit by a pitch in the rally in the third. Dillon then ripped an RBI double. Monroe junior Brooke Adams had an RBI double and Jordan crushed an RBI triple to give the Cheesemakers a 3-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
"Edgewood had the momentum," Buvid said. "Sometimes the first hit gets you going. Hats off to Natalie. Brooke and Kari also had big hits."
Monroe junior Cassidy Pivonka at third base started a 5-4-3 double play that helped the Cheesemakers get out of the sixth.
"It was a nice play by Cassidy, Kylea (Ambrose) and Hannah (Vetterli)," Buvid said.
Dillon pitched a complete game and gave up two earned runs on eight hits. She struck out seven and walked one.
"Natalie pitched a good game," he said. "Edgewood played a really good game. They competed well."
Monroe will host Stoughton at 5 p.m. today at Twining Park. After losing a couple of early games with players on spring break, Stoughton has won five straight games.
"They (Stoughton) seem to be clicking on all cylinders now," Buvid said.
