MONROE - Junior Blake Duffy helped the Monroe boys soccer team rebound from a tie against Sugar River.

Duffy scored a goal on an assist from Dan Tinoco at 37 minutes, 25 seconds to give the Cheesemakers the early boost they needed in shutting down Platteville 2-0 on Tuesday at Honey Creek Park.

Junior Taylor Teasdale scored a goal on a pass from Oliver Lees at 61:36 to seal the game.

"We got off to a good start," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "We had a little trouble up close in the first half."

With three games this week, Vasquez said he wanted to keep rotating players into the game.

"We want to make sure we are not worn down for the conference game on Thursday," he said.

Monroe (4-1-1, 1-0 Badger South) will host Monona Grove at 5 p.m. Thursday at Honey Creek Park.

"I think they have had some obstacles," Vasquez said. "I think they have handled them pretty well. I think it will be a tough game. Hopefully, we have learned from some of the mistakes we have made."
