EVANSVILLE - The Monroe boys golf team put it all together and finished in second place at the WIAA Division 2 Evansville regional to qualify for the sectional as a team.

Madison Edgewood shot a 317, which just outdistanced the Cheesemakers (322) for the regional title.

"Our top four guys all played well at the same time," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "They feel like they could have done better. We will need to do better if we are going to make it out of the sectional."

Monroe freshman Nick Baumann and junior Matt Miller both shot an 80 and tied for seventh place. All four of the Cheesemakers' top four golfers finished in the top 11. Monroe senior Eric Timm and sophomore Tanner Thompson both shot an 81 and tied for 11th place.

"They saw the course at an invitational and played a practice round on it," Rindy said. "They knew they could do it."

Timm had a birdie on No. 12 and Miller also had a birdie. Thompson birdied the first two holes and was even after nine holes. After shooting a 36 on the front nine, he struggled on the back nine shooting a 45.

Brodhead finished eighth out of nine teams with a 420. Brodhead's John Rudyanski shot an 86 to tie for 16th place, and he qualified as an individual for the sectional.

Monroe will golf in the River Valley sectional Wednesday, June 4 at the House on the Rock Golf Course. The top two teams and the top two individuals not on the top two teams will advance to state.

"It will be tough," Rindy said of qualifying for state. "It's definitely achievable."
