FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe wrestling team won 10 matches en route to knocking off Fort Atkinson 39-24 in a dual meet Friday night.
"From start to finish, we wrestled hard," Monroe coach Tom Witt said. "The message all week was this is a dual meet we could win."
Monroe improves to 4-3, 1-1 Badger South.
Monroe sophomore Sam Kind at 138 pounds edged Fort Atkinson's Keagan Healy 4-3. Monroe's Travis Wolf (145) beat Fort Atkinson's Jacob Willey 5-2, and sophomore teammate Dempzy Foley (160) defeated Nick Chapin 7-2.
Witt was excited by Wolf's performance.
"It was his best match he has wrestled in two years on varsity," he said. "He never got in trouble. He finished his takedowns. That is how he's capable of wrestling. He is turning the corner and getting better."
Monroe senior McKenzy Foley was able to hang on to clip Fort Atkinson's Austin Kind 3-1. Junior Isaac Allen (182) defeated Fort Atkinson's Wade Sykes 6-1. Junior Hayden Arneson (195) pinned Dalton Goldsmith in 56 seconds, and senior Traiten Gorr (220) pinned Blake Britzke in 3:30. Monroe freshman Gabe Witt won on a pin in 41 seconds to seal the dual meet win.
