MONROE - When it comes to having success on the soccer field, Monroe freshman Brynn Ritschard has remained humble and taken early success all in stride.

Ritschard scored three goals and had two assists to propel Monroe to a 7-0 non-conference win over Dodgeville-Mineral Point Tuesday at a blustery Honey Creek Park. It marked Ritschard's second hat trick this season. She has now scored nine goals in six games.

"It feels really good," Ritschard said of netting the hat trick. "I really couldn't have done it without my team. They gave me a lot of passes. It was good I was able to finish it off."

It was far from a one-player performance for the Cheesemakers. Monroe (3-1-2) dominated the game outshooting Dodgeville-Mineral Point an astonishing 50-3. Monroe juniors Shannon Robotski and Maddie Kallgren each had two goals and one assist.

"It was our goal to get the mercy rule," Ritschard said. "We were really pumped up before the game."

The Cheesemakers scored five goals in the first half going into the wind. Ritschard scored her first goal on assists from Kallgren and Robotski at 1 minute, 3 seconds. Kallgren then scored a goal on an assist from Ritschard at 7:24.

Kallgren scored her second goal on a pass from Monroe senior Kelley Baumann at 23:19. Robotski scored two goals in the final 4 minutes of the first half to give the Cheesemakers an insurmountable 5-0 lead.

Ritschard's shot on goal went off the goalie and Robotski was there to punch it in for a goal. Robotski scored her second goal on an assist from senior Emily Frankowski at 44:48.

"It was a good motivation to keep going," Robotski said. "My main goal when I come in is to have fun. It's always good to score. It's really good we have had these scoring opportunities. It's something we have to take advantage of."

The Cheesemakers had numerous scoring opportunities in the second half, but scored just two goals. Ritschard scored in the first minute of the second half on an assist from Frankowski to give the Cheesemakers a 6-0 lead.

The Cheesemakers were called offsides three times in the second half and judging how the wind would affect their shots became a challenge. Ritschard capped the scoring with her third goal on a pass from senior Kathryn Anderson at 85:34. With 47 more shots on goal, Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill admitted the Cheesemakers should have scored more goals.

"If you can imagine having 50 shots on goal they probably felt like they should have scored more goals," O'Neill said. "The wind was such a factor. There were so many shots that just sailed over the goal. At least we were still getting the shots off our feet. The great thing about soccer is every game is so different. It can be so unpredictable. I think in the last couple of games we have been getting so many more opportunities from our midfielders and forwards. It's really nice to see we have had so many opportunities."

Monroe freshman goalkeeper Reily Pond had three saves.

Senior goalie Gwendolyn Ambrose missed her third straight game since a concussion. Ambrose is getting close to a return Saturday when the Cheesemakers host the Monroe Quad.

"I think she will be coming back this weekend," O'Neill said.

However, Monroe will have a key non-conference game at Sugar River Thursday before the games Saturday.

"We have always had a rivalry with Sugar River," O'Neill said. "The Sugar River game is always really competitive. I think it will be an exciting match."
