BRODHEAD - The Monroe High School girls basketball team had three players reach double figures and rolled to a 64-34 season-opening win over Brodhead on Tuesday.
Monroe jumped out to a 29-5 lead in the first half and led 36-8 at the half.
Monroe senior Lexi Hilliard scored a game-high 14 points. Sophomore Emily Benzschawel added 12 points and junior Sydney Mathiason had 10 points. Both senior Jordan Hirsbrunner and sophomore Sydney Hilliard added eight points.
"We really moved the ball, shared the ball and had that balanced scoring," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "I think our defensive intensity was good. The effort on both ends of the floor was really good."
The Cheesemakers led by as many as 36 points in the second half.
"We had a lot of different opportunities and people took advantage of the opportunities," Mathiason said. "You just keep trying to get better and find that consistency."
Senior Morgan Cook scored eight points to lead the Cardinals. Erin Nyhus and Jacklyn Kleeman each added seven points. Kleeman hit two 3-pointers.
Monroe will play at McFarland on Friday.
Juda 82, Madison Country Day 16
JUDA - Senior Chelsea Burkhalter scored a game-high 21 points to power Juda over Madison Country Day on Tuesday in its season opener.
Burkhalter hit three of the Panthers' six 3-pointers. Maddie Roth scored 15 points and made two 3-pointers.
Juda senior Alexis Goecks and junior MacKenzie Byrne each added nine points. Erika Duecker and Hannah Powers both chipped in eight points.
The Panthers made 10 of 15 free throws and led 50-6 at the half.
Darlington 62, Belmont 32
DARLINGTON - Sophomore Kaylee Meyers scored a game-high 13 points to power Darlington over Belmont.
The Redbirds led by just five points at the half. However, the Redbirds outscored the Braves 39-14 in the second half.
Darlington junior Kennedy Rankin added nine points. Sophomore Kathleen Mathias and and senior point guard Sadie Fitzsimons each chipped in eight points, and ssophomore Bethany McDonald had seven points.
Darlington will play a nonconference game at Pecatonica on Friday.
NEW GLARUS 66, ARGYLE 49
NEW GLARUS -ARGYLE - Senior Devon Boll scored a game-high 21 points to lead New Glarus to a nonconference win over Argyle.
The Glarner Knights outscored the Orioles 37-22 in the first half.
New Glarus junior Willow Lee added 17 points for the Knights.
Argyle's Jena Saalsaa scored 21 points to lead the Orioles.
Argyle will host Parkview on Thursday and New Glarus will play at Poynette on Friday.
