MILTON - The Monroe High School boys basketball team will enter the WIAA regional tournament on a two-game winning streak after the Cheesemakers came back to knock off Milton 52-41 in the regular-season finale Thursday might.

Monroe (6-16, 3-9 Badger South) trailed by seven points late in the first half. Monroe junior Ross Oxenreider and sophomore David Keegan each drilled 3-pointers to cut the Red Hawks' lead to 25-24 at the half.

"We were dead and down and out," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said before Oxenreider and Keegan's 3-pointers. "Offensively, we were struggling. All 11 guys stepped up, and we needed everyone to win."

Murphy is excited to see the Cheesemakers take some momentum into the postseason.

"It's a good way to go into the tournament with a two-game winning streak," Murphy said. "It's something we haven't done all year. It's something to build off of. We gutted one out. We were hesitant on offense, but our defense kept us in it. We will need both phases on Tuesday against Mount Horeb."

Monroe junior Alex Tordoff scored a team-high 15 points and was 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. The Cheesemakers as a team shot 80.7 percent (21 of 26).

Monroe senior Bern Latimer added 11 points before fouling out with about 4 minutes to go. Keegan scored 10 points.

The Cheesemakers used a 2-3 zone at stretches during the game.

"We sprinkled in a 2-3 zone to give them a different look," Murphy said.
