MONROE - In a dominating complete game, the Monroe boys basketball team rolled to a 52-29 non-conference win over Lena-Winslow on Saturday.

Lena-Winslow played without its top player in senior guard Joe Robinson and the Panthers were coming off a quadruple overtime win over Stockton.

"The cards were stacked against them a little bit," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "I told our team when your top player is missing, that gives someone else an opportunity to step up. We have guys who have been working hard and it's nice to see them get rewarded. It's one small step. We were playing on our home court and we want to defend our home court. When you hold a team under 30 points, you are doing something well."

Monroe (4-11, 1-6 Badger South) did a lot right in cruising to the win. Monroe junior Carter Sawdey scored a team-high 11 points and senior Ben Latimer added 10 points and eight rebounds. The Cheesemakers had a big rebounding edge on the Panthers 34-12.

"We have talked about trying to make it a more guttier performance and do the things that don't take any talent," Murphy said.

Monroe sophomore David Keegan chipped in seven points and sophomore Brayden Zettle had six points on two 3-pointers. Latimer also hit a 3-pointer.

"If we can have guys spread the floor and hit the outside shot it will be to our benefit," Murphy said.

Lena-Winslow senior Michael Packard scored a game-high 12 points and had five rebounds to lead the Panthers.

Monroe will host Fort Atkinson on Tuesday.
