Monroe Opt. No. 1 wins two

MONROE - Monroe Optimist's No. 1 picked up two wins in the Monroe Area Fastpitch League Sunday night at Twining Park.

Kasey Gutzmer collected two hits and drove in a run to lead Monroe to a 5-4 win over Stockton.

Kristin McArdle struck out seven while picking up the win. In the other game, Monroe pounded out 11 hits and defeated Brodhead 13-2. Kelsey Erickson and Gutzmer each collected two hits for Monroe.

In other Red League games, Orangeville defeated Orfordville 10-1 and Juda beat Stockton 11-1. Amber Ramos smashed a two-run home run in Juda's six-run fourth. Ramos struck out 18 in earning the win on the mound.

In White League action, Durand scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a game tied at 5 and went on to defeat Monroe Optimist's No. 2 7-5. Briana Katzenberger and Alyssa Montgomery each had multiple hit games to lead the Monroe offense.

Emily Emberson kept Monroe in the game with her pitching, but took the loss.

Monroe will host its annual fastpitch tournament Sunday at Twining Park. Teams scheduled to play in the tournament include Freeport, Orangeville, Brodhead, Dodgeville, Belmont, Orfordville and Monroe. Games will start at 11 a.m. Sunday.
