PLATTEVILLE - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swimming team didn't have to wait long to post its first dual meet win of the season.
The Cheesemakers knocked off Platteville-Lancaster 88-80 Saturday to win their season opener.
"Our first meet is under our belts and all the jitters that go along with that first meet," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "Our tempo has been set for the season and that is one of giving it your all in the water and encouraging each other through each and every race."
Monroe-New Glarus won five individual events and took first in two relays. Monroe-New Glarus freshman Madelyn Hammer finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 33.70 seconds and she took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.23). Monroe junior Abby Oudinot finished first place in the 50 freestyle (27.33) and took first in the 100 freestyle (1:02.54).
Monroe sophomore Skylar Lassen finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:12.13) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:11.15). The Cheesemakers swept the top two spots in the 200 IM with Reagan Andersen taking second place (2:41).
The Cheesemakers' 200 freestyle relay team of Andersen, Anna Meritt, Grace Moehn and Oudinot took first with a time of 1:56.49. Meritt teamed with Anna Wolf, Lassen and Hammer to win the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:06.86.
Wolf added second-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (1:06.44) and the 500 freestyle (6:10.15).
"We swim in a very hard conference so winning this dual meet against Platteville/Lancaster gives us that upbeat start that we haven't experienced that last two years," Moser said. "Platteville/Lancaster has similar numbers and a similar percentage of off season swimmers. When we get to the Badger South that is not true. Winning a dual in Badger South will be much tougher and the girls know it, but they are up for the challenge."
