Monroe holds off DeForest

DEFOREST - The Monroe girls tennis team edged DeForest 4-3 in a dual match on Thursday.

The Cheesemakers dominated singles play winning three of the four matches. Monroe senior Ellie Shuda, at No. 1 singles, defeated DeForest's Mira Demind 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Monroe senior Lily Priewe defeated DeForest's MacKenzie Spurgat 6-0, 6-2. Erica Hegi, at No. 3 singles for the Cheesemakers, beat Megan Aime in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1). Monroe's Macayla Quinn lost to Megan Walker at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Brooke McBain and sophomore Ellie Grossen defeated DeForest's Rachel LaRue and Amy Sommers 6-4, 6-1. Monroe's Ashley Segner and Chandra McGuire, at No. 2 doubles, lost to Molly Franz and Andrea Wilson 7-5, 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, the Cheesemakers' team of Allie Coplien and Erin Gellings lost to Kilwy Mulrahy and Anna Bischel 6-2, 6-3.
