Monroe has 10 tabbed Badger South all-conference

MONROE - Both the Cheesemakers boys and girls basketball teams had five players receive all-conference honors, with Mitch Tordoff and Ashley Hermanson being named as unanimous first-team Badger South selections.

For the girls, senior guard Emily Rufenacht and juniors Jamie Armstrong and Gwen Sutter joined Hermanson on the Badger South first team.

Sophomore guard Kyleigh Sellnow was named honorable mention.

Armstrong averaged nearly a double-double as Monroe tied with Madison Edgewood for the conference title and advanced to the state tournament in Madison.

Edgewood had MacKenzie Kolb and Becky Gifford named unanimous selections. Oregon's Laura Atkinson and Kayla Crowley, Monona Grove's Jessica Schmitz and Milton's Amber Davis also were named to the first team.

Tordoff was the only Monroe player named to the boys' Badger South first team. Senior guard Mitch McArdle and sophomore Bryan Tordoff each made the second team.

Senior forward Jake Grinnell and sophomore guard Michael Barrett received honorable mention.

Mitch Tordoff averaged more than 18 points per gam and was the key component in the Cheesemakers' run to the state championship game. Tordoff scored 35 points in an early win against Milton, hit free throws in the clutch in a win at Madison Edgewood and hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to knock off Stoughton at home.

Barrett also hit a game winner against Stoughton, and Monroe tied Edgewood for a the conference title.

Edgewood's Derek Braucht and Patrick Lagman, Monona Grove's Zak Manthe, and Milton's Mason Walters each were named to the first team. Braucht and Walters were unanimous selections.
