SPRING GREEN - The Monroe High School boys golf team defeated Reedsburg 3-2 in a Badger Cup matchup to help the South knock off the North 14-7.

One team from the North and South are matched up in the Badger Cup format and the No. 1 golfers play a match-play round. The No. 2 and 3 golfers play best-ball rounds, and the No. 4 and 5 golfers play a scramble round during which both players hit and they take the best shot. The Cheesemakers won two of the three against Reedsburg Wednesday at the House on the Rock Golf Course in Spring Green.

"It's set up more for fun," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "It's a rivalry between the North and South. I wanted them to have fun but take it seriously, because we have the regional Monday. We played from the white tees which are a little closer. They were able to hit some different shots with different clubs for practice."

The South has defeated the North for the Badger Cup trophy six of the past seven years. The only year the North won was last season.

Monroe sophomore Jack Rogerson played Reedsburg's Dylan Brown and defeated him by getting a par on the 18th hole. Brown, the Badger North Conference individual champion from Tuesday, hit a shot into the woods on the 18th. He then dropped his ball and hit a shot into the pond and conceded the win to Rogerson.

Monroe senior Devon Boeck and junior Collyn Wilde played best ball and knocked off their Reedsburg's Ben Fuhrmann and Zach Arneson by five strokes with four holes to go.

The Cheesemakers' No. 4 and 5 golfers, freshman Noah Becker and senior Kyle Krebs, played a scramble format and lost by four shots with three holes left to Reedsburg's Ian Hamilton and Kip Cunningham.
