FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe girls track team finished third place at the Fort Atkinson Invitational Friday.

McFarland won the team title 128-117.5 over Fort Atkinson. The Cheesemakers scored 108 points for third place and four championship performances.

"We didn't load it up to win this meet," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said. "We still scored pretty high. I'm really happy with the performances."

Monroe sophomore Jordan Hirsbrunner won three individual events including the 100-meter hurdles (16.51 seconds), the 300 intermediate hurdles (48.26) and the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches).

"She had a busy night," Davis said. "It was nice to see her get first when there is a little more pressure."

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of junior Isabel Bazley, junior Abby Oudinot, Makayla Phillips and sophomore Josie Eberle won with a time of 52.76 seconds.

"That is a good time to be running at this time of year," Davis said. "I'm happy they got into the 52 second mark. It's a milestone we had to cross."

Eberle finished second in the pole vault, clearing a personal-record 8-9. Oudinot took third place in the 100 (13.19) and the triple jump (32-6 1/2).

Bazley teamed with Lexus Trickel, Phillips and Eberle to take third place in the 800 relay (1:53). Bazley and Trickel teamed with freshmen Mya Waterman and Rachel Meier to finish third place in the 1,600 relay (4:19.07).

"They really ran some really good splits," Davis said. "Their splits were at 62 or 63 seconds. It's really what you want to see."

In the boys' meet, Monroe finished seventh out of nine teams.

Monroe junior Tyler Sobacki won the 110 high hurdles (16.35). He edged a runner from Monona Grove by 0.1 seconds.

"He ran a very competitive race," Monroe boys track coach Curt Miller said. "He put some time in during the offseason and got a little stronger. It's starting to show because he has been so consistent."

Monroe freshman Dylan Scace won the 3,200 (10:06).

"It's a really nice time," Miller said of Scace in the 3,200. "It's a breakout race. I don't think Dylan has ever run a two-mile in track. He pulled away from state state-caliber cross country runners in the end."

Monroe junior Thang Lu finished second place in the 800 (2:01.71). It marked Lu's best time in the 800 this season.

"He (Lu) has become one of our leaders in the middle distance," Miller said. "I have no doubt he will break 2 minutes. He has been working hard and preparing to have a great season. He's right on pace right now with where we want him to be."
