MONROE - The Monroe High School girls track and field team used a balanced effort to run to a team championship Monday in a WIAA Division 2 regional.

Monroe rolled up 127 points to finish ahead of runner-up Jefferson (118) in the nine-team regional. Sugar River placed third (84) and Brodhead-Juda fourth (81).

"I was very happy with how we performed," Monroe coach Matt Davis said. "To beat a team like Jefferson is really good because they have a great team. I wasn't expecting that. I was thrilled. I think it's just the icing on the cake. The girls stepped up tonight big time and proved it."

Monroe senior Jordan Hirsbrunner won regional titles in the 100-meter hurdles (15.26 seconds) and in the 300 hurdles (45.28). Hirsbrunner took second in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches).

The other sectional qualifier for the Cheesemakers in the 100 hurdles was senior Casey Rielly who took fourth (16.07).

Rielly teamed with senior Josie Eberle, freshman Cassi Gersbach and Ganshert to win the 400 relay (50.37).

The top four finishers in each event advance to the McFarland sectional Thursday.

There was a two-hour delay in the meet due to lightning.

"Even with the rain and the two-hour delay, our girls kept their focus," Davis said. "I was really happy with their sticks tonight (in the relays)."

Eberle won a regional title in the pole vault (10-0).

"I was really happy to see Josie get 10 feet," Davis said. "The girls really stepped up and were hungry to move on."

Monroe senior Lexus Trickel won the triple jump (34-4) and took second in the long jump (16-51⁄4).

"It was about a one-foot PR for Lexus in the triple jump," Davis said.

Sugar River senior Krista Diaz finished second in the 100 hurdles (15.40) and second in the 300 hurdles (48.20). Gersbach took third in the 300 hurdles (48.46).

Monroe sophomore Cammi Ganshert took second in the 100 (12.65) and Sugar River sophomore Kiara Donnell was third (12.89).

"Cammi ran one of her better times," Davis said. "She was determined. She came back and ran a great leg in the 4-by-400 relay."

The Cheesemakers' 1,600 relay team of Eberle, Ganshert, Sydney Mathiason and Hirsbrunner took second (4:13.55). Brodhead-Juda's 1,600 relay team took third (4:23.97).

Sugar River senior Noelle Marie captured regional titles in the 1,600 (5:18.30) and 3,200 (11:26.72).

Brodhead-Juda junior Madee Harding won the 200 (26.81) and the 400 (1:01.93). Harding added a third-place finish in the high jump (5-0). Junior teammate Cora Purdue captured a regional championship in the 800 (2:20.60). Brodhead-Juda's 400 relay team placed fourth (52.64).

Monroe sophomore Faith Koester finished fourth in the high jump (4-10), and freshman Chloe Bunker placed fourth in the shot put (30-3).
