MADISON - Madison Edgewood had a balanced offensive attack and pulled away for a 55-35 win over Monroe in a Badger South Conference game Saturday night.

Monroe junior Whitney Disch came off the bench to score 10 points to lead the Cheesemakers. Senior Heather Barta and junior Chandra McGuire each scored six points. Edgewood (15-4, 9-2 Badger South) has won 10 straight games and is just one game behind Monona Grove in the Badger South Conference race. With the loss, Monroe drops to 1-18, 0-10 Badger South.

"They are playing very well as of late," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "They are primed for the stretch run. They were focused and ready to play. They knew what they had on the line."

With two starters injured, Mathiason still believes the Cheesemakers have made strides to become a better team.

"I feel like we continually show improvement," Mathiason said. "I feel like they are getting better. It's continually trying to find that consistency to put it together for a full game."

The Crusaders jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter and led by 11 points at the half. Edgewood senior JoJo Chryst scored 10 of her 12 points over the first three quarters. Samantha Foti led Edgewood with 13 points and New Hampshire recruit Amanda Kelm added 10 for the Crusaders.

"They came out with a fullcourt press in the first quarter and we struggled with that a little bit," Mathiason said.

The Cheesemakers were within 12 points late in the fourth quarter, but the Crusaders closed the game with an 8-0 run.

"I didn't feel like it was quite that margin," Mathiason said of the 20-point loss.

Disch made 3 of 4 shots and was 4 of 4 at the free throw line to lead the Cheesemakers. The Cheesemakers finished 13 of 17 at the charity stripe in the game.

"That was very good," Mathiason said. "We got the ball into her (Disch) and she made some nice plays. She did a really good job of getting some of those baskets for us."
