MONROE - The first loss of the season Saturday dropped Monroe's girls basketball team from its No. 1 perch in The Associated Press' Division 2 poll.
The Cheesemakers (9-1) now are ranked second in the poll, behind Columbus (10-0). Monroe lost its first game of the season, 48-45, to Sauk Prairie on Saturday.
The Monroe girls are one of three ranked teams in the area. The Black Hawk girls (8-0) remain No. 3 in the Division 4 poll, while the New Glarus boys (8-1) dropped from No. 6 to No. 8 in the Division 3 rankings.
The Monroe boys (3-3) received votes in the Division 2 poll, but are not ranked in the top 10.
