PLATTEVILLE - Monroe's girls cross country team finished second overall in the Large School Division at Saturday's Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational.

Senior Tess Seichter led the Cheesemakers with an 11th place finish in a time of 16 minutes, 10 seconds in the 4K race. Sophomore teammate Molly Hlubek was 27th with a time of 16:44. Freshman Abby Rogerson (34th, 16:47), senior Tessa Frutiger ( 48th, 17:07) and freshman Elizabeth Dale (52nd, 17:11) rounded out Monroe's scoring.

"This was by far our best all-around performance as a team this season," Monroe coach Brian Jefferson said. "In terms of times, level of competition, team places and overall attitude Saturday was at the top. It was truly a team effort."

Jefferson was pleased with each of his runners.

"Rachel Rogerson is finally back to where she should be. She is a 2008 all-conference runner and we have missed her so far this season," he said. Rogerson had struggled through the first half of the season with minor setbacks.

"Abby Rogerson had a heck of day, breaking the 17 minute barrier for the first time. For a freshman to be where she is right now is pretty nice for our team," Jefferson said.

New Glarus-Monticello won the small school division with 58 points, holding off Darlington (72), Boscobel (76) and Fennimore (88). Albany (157) and Pecatonica (191) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Kelsey Bernet was the top runner for NGM, finishing seventh overall with a time of 15:55. Sophomore teammate LouAnn Judd (16th, 16:24), freshman Madeline Brunner (30th, 16:45), senior Rachel Miller (33rd, 16:47) and Brenna Sargent (56th, 17:20) rounded out the Knights' scoring.

Sophomore Amy Jorgenson (24th, 16:39) led Darlington. Senior Olivia Wedig (29th, 16:44), freshman Cheyenne Wolfe (36th, 16:52), junior Taryn Evenstad (16:52) and freshman Christa Wamsley and Tatum Evenstad tied for 40th place (16:57) to round out the Redbirds scoring.

Junior Ingrid Kallgren (16:39) led Albany with a 25th-place finish. Sophomore teammate Ciara Kubesh (17:08) finished 50th overall.

Sophomore Kendra Sigg (17:06) took 47th place, which was tops for Pecatonica-Argyle.

Platteville's Tricia Serres won the race, finishing in a time of 15:26. Dodgeville-Mineral Point was the overall team leader, finishing with 42 points. Wisconsin Dells, Madison Edgewood, Platteville, Lodi, Sauk Prairie, Southwestern-Cuba City, Prairie du Chien, Mount Horeb-Barneveld, Evansville, Brookwood and Belleville also competed in the meet.
