Monroe falters after break

MADISON - The Monroe boys basketball team couldn't pull off a win on the road and lost to Madison Edgewood 50-40 in a Badger South Conference game Friday night.

Edgewood jumped out to a 14-10 first-quarter lead and led 24-22 at halftime. Edgewood seized control of the game by limiting the Cheesemakers to just four points in the third quarter.

Monroe junior Brian Schneider scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Cheesemakers. Monroe junior Alex Barenklau scored seven points and Joe Latimer added five.

With the loss, Monroe drops to 6-6 overall and 2-4 Badger South.

Edgewood's Austin Arians scored a game-high 21 points.

Monroe returns to action on Monday with a contest at Clinton.
