MILTON - The Monroe Cheesemakers couldn't get the big hit or put together a big inning against Milton, and lost 4-2 to the Red Hawks in a Badger South Conference game Tuesday.

Monroe batters fanned 11 times and managed only four hits against Milton's Sam McCann, but senior Drew Nafzger and sophomore Kevin Klopfstein scored runs in the second inning to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead.

The Red Hawks scored a run off senior Mitch Marty in the fourth inning to cut the Cheesemakers' lead to 2-1. The next inning Milton scored three times to take the lead for good. Marty pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. He struck out one and did not walk a batter.

"We put pressure on them early, but couldn't get a big hit in the first inning," said Monroe head coach Dustin Huffman, whose team was trying to get back to the .500 mark for the season. "We kind of had a sense of urgency for the first time this year."

Marty collected two of Monroe's four hits for the game, finishing 2 for 2. Senior Dylan Cleaveland went 1 for 3 with an RBI and senior Dylan Schwitz went 1 for 4.

Monroe (4-4, 3-2 Badger South) will travel to Forth Atkinson Thursday.
