EDGERTON - The Monroe volleyball team's season came to an end in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal loss to top seeded and the state's fifth ranked team in Edgerton.
The Crimson Tide beat the Cheesemakers in three sets 25-9, 25-20, 25-20.
"I was pleased with my seniors," Monroe coach Dave Gersbach said. "They really dug deep. "
Gersbach said Edgerton went to an inside tip attack in the second game and the Cheesemakers had a tough time defending it.
"We executed better with our serve in the second game," Gersbach said.
The Cheesemakers trailed 7-1 in the third game before rallying.
"We dug in deep and got out of the hole, but we were never able to get ahead," Gersbach said.
Monroe senior Jaclyn Ditter had a team-high eight kills. Sara Donvito had 14 digs and senior Abby Jacobson contributed 12 assists. Junior Kirstie Hinojosa had two aces to lead the Cheesemakers.
Monroe finishes the season 9-18.
"I'm glad with how we matched up," Gersbach said. "We just came up a little short tonight."
