BARABOO - The Monroe boys tennis team lost a Badger Conference crossover match 4-3 to Baraboo Friday.

"We came out on the wrong end of a nail biter tonight," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said.

The Cheesemakers couldn't get the win needed at No. 2 or 3 doubles.

"Unfortunately, our struggles in tiebreakers continued," Saugstad said. "Baraboo, with eight seniors on their team, just had too much depth for us tonight."

Monroe sophomore Taylor Soddy at No. 1 singles defeated Baraboo's Jon Wise 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Monroe's Quinten L'Yvonnet defeated Alex Mann 6-4, 6-0. The other win for the Cheesemakers came at No. 1 doubles from Carson Root and Garrett Tschanz who defeated Nathaniel Grill and Joel Szymanski 6-1, 6-0.

The Cheesemakers' No. 2 doubles team of Cristian Noriega and Jess Hager lost to Cory Blanda and Dan Konen 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3). At No. 3 doubles Baraboo's Philip Reasa and Andrew Hendricks defeated Kevin Kohlstedt and Josh Riese 6-1, 7-6.

Monroe's Luke Andraski at No. 3 singles lost to Adam Laux 6-2, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, Baraboo's Ryan Mathers defeated Luke Molinaro 6-0, 6-0.

"Both No. 2 and 3 doubles teams are still learning how to work together and be successful in doubles," Saugstad said. "Attention to detail is so important in doubles because both teams went through stretches where they struggled to place their volleys where they needed to. They will learn and improve from these tough losses."
