Monroe falls; Fury win

BELOIT - After a scoreless first period, Beloit memorial broke through with two second-period goals to propel them to a 3-0 nonconference win over the Monroe boys hockey co-op Thursday at the Edwards Ice Arena.

Beloit Memorial's Andy Badger scored an unassisted goal at the 4-minute mark in the second period. The Purple Knights followed that up with a power-play goal by Kyle Hanaman to take a 2-0 lead over the Cheesemakers.

Hanaman finished with one goal and two assists. Beloit Memorial's Tyler Harrington scored a short-handed goal on an assist by Hanaman at 6:38 in the third period to seal the win.

Monroe sophomore goalie Heath Bear had 44 saves. The Purple Knights outshot the Cheesemakers 47-13. With the loss, the Cheesemakers drop to 3-14 overall and 1-7 in the Badger South Conference.



Girls Hockey

Rock County Fury 6, Madison Metro Lynx 0

MADISON - For the first time in the history of the program, the Rock County Fury captured a Badger Conference championship with a 6-0 win over the Madison Metro Lynx Thursday.

Maggy Henschler started the scoring with a goal on a penalty shot in the first period. On a rebound from Dani Heitsman's blue liner, Albany's Haley Knauf put one in the back of the net. On a power-play, Henschler scored her second goal on an assist by Monroe junior Cammi Ganshert.

Monroe freshman Anika Einbeck also scored two goals. Einbeck scored on assist from Albany's Alyssa Knauf and Ganshert for a playmaker, and Presley Kovacevich. Heitsman scored the last goal on a pass from Henschler.

McKaylie Buescher earned her 12th shutout of the season. With the win, the Fury improve to 17-2-2 overall and 9-0 in the Badger Conference.
