Monroe eclipses OHS, 5-2

OREGON - The Monroe Cheesemakers held the edge in both the singles and doubles to defeat the Oregon Panthers, 5-2 in Badger South tennis Tuesday.

Monroe came away with victories in the first three singles matches and the first two doubles matches.

At No. 1 singles, senior Ellie Shuda defeated Oregon's Martha Rose Sommers, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Lily Priewe, at No. 2 singles, topped Madison Slepica of Oregon, 6-1, 6-4. Erica Hegi, stepping in this season at No. 3 singles, was victorious as she defeated Lauren Bucheger of Oregon, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Monroe's Macayla Quinn, at No. 4 singles, lost to Oregon's Hailey Morey, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.

Monroe's No. 1 doubles team of Brooke McBain and Ellie Grossen got the best of Oregon's Charlie McMannes and Alexa Nelson, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Monroe's Ashley Segner and Chandra McGuire posted another win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Oregon's Gabby Swenson and Shauna Slack. Oregon beat the Cheesemakers at No. 3 doubles as Erin Gellings and Allie Coplien were outlasted by Oregon's Megan Whip and Kayla Whip 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

The Cheesemakers' next match is Thursday at home against Monona Grove.
