STOUGHTON - The Monroe Cheesemakers staged a comeback Tuesday at Stoughton, but failed to produce a come-from-behind win.

The Vikings turned back the Cheesemakers in a Badger South Conference match that went the maximum five games, 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 15-9. Monroe dropped the first two games, but stayed alive with wins in games three and four.

In the deciding game five, the Cheesemakers found themselves in a 6-0 hole at the outset and couldn't recover.

"It was a hard fought match. I was pleased with our overall play," said Monroe head coach Dave Gersbach. "After losing those first two games and coming back to take the next two shows a lot of heart and determination."

Seniors Jaclyn Ditter and Abby Jacobson played a huge role in a team effort for the Cheesemakers. Ditter had nine kills and Jacobson had 23 assists. Senior Jessica Leu and sophomore Becca Armstrong each contributed three blocks. Monroe also got 24 digs and two aces from Sara Donvito.

With the loss, Monroe falls to 8-13 overall and 1-7 in the Badger South. The Cheesemakers will be home Thursday to host Milton.
