MONROE - Playing without two starters, the Monroe boys hockey co-op hung with Waunakee before dropping a nonconference game to the Warriors 3-0 Friday.
"We played well tonight and worked extra hard but in the end we couldn't find the net," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "Being down two starters and some of our second line definitely hurt us. Between that and rushing our passes in our own zone instead of taking a second to look for the best option it was just too much to overcome."
Monroe sophomore goaltender Heath Bear had 42 saves. Waunakee outshot the Cheesemakers 45-17. Monroe (1-2) will play at Greendale tonight.
"We just have to shake it off and get ready for Greendale," Smith said.
