MONROE - After Monroe's Senior Legion baseball club stole some precious property from Fort, the gates were closed Saturday in a doubleheader split at Monroe High School.

Monroe rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Fort Atkinson, 9-5, before Sam Johnson threw a complete-game, 6-0 shutout in the second tilt of a conference twin bill.

Mike Rear picked up the win in the first game, as he fanned nine and scattered six hits. Leadoff man Scott Kline paced the offense as usual, with two hits and scoring twice. Mike Demianiuk and Taylor Weckerly added a pair of hits for Monroe.

Demianiuk went the distance in the second game, but his offense never came around. He allowed eight hits and walked only one. His catcher Kyle Klopfenstein and Cory Kundert both had two hits, but Monroe couldn't turn five total knocks into any runs.

Monroe travels to Belleville today and hosts Darlington on Tuesday. Both games are non-conference contests scheduled for 6 p.m.
