Monroe boys, girls turn in solid performance at Fort Atkinson

FORT ATKINSON - Both the Monroe girls and boys track teams turned in some top performances at the triangular meet at Fort Atkinson Tuesday with Madison Edgewood, Oregon and Fort Atkinson.

Monroe junior Cammi Ganshert won the 100-meter dash (12.7) and the 20-0 (25.54). Junior teammate Emma Sanders took second (13.2).

The Cheesemakers' 400-meter relay team of Faith Koester, Sydney Mathiason, Sanders and Ganshert won the race with a time of 52.16 seconds.

"Our 4x1 time is currently second fastest in Division 2, but we will need to take it down another two seconds over the next month," Monroe girls track coach Eric Jubeck said.

The Cheesemakers swept the top three spots in the high jump and pole vault. Junior Faith Koester finished first in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches. Sanders took second (4-8) and freshman Abby Price placed third (4-6). Senior Payton Sigafus won the pole vault (7-6). Sophomore Lily Frehner took second (7-0) and Koester was third (7-0).

"Overall our depth is what makes us a strong team and we showed this again tonight," Jubeck said. "Good team effort to get us ready for top tier competition at Middleton on Friday."

Monroe sophomore Cassi Gersbach won the 300 hurdles (50.14). Monroe sophomore Bri Seagreaves finished second in the 100 hurdles (18.5).

In the boys' meet, Monroe's 800 relay team of Mason Seffrood, Michael Kundert, Brayden Zettle and Owen Christen won the race with a time of 1:33.98.

The Cheesemakers' 1,600 relay team of seniors Jonah Tostrud, Drake Ingold, Jason Koller and Jake Meier finished first (3:32.24).

Zettle won the triple jump with a jump of 42 feet, 2 ¼ inches and junior Jordan Montgomery took second in the 100 (11.69).

Tostrud took second in the 400 (52.84) The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Jake Meier, Kyle Legler, Austin Coulthard and Gabe Witt took second (9:24.54). Senior Tyson Welsch placed second in the discus (134-10).
