Monroe boys fall to Oregon

OREGON - The Cheesemakers lost for the third time in four games, falling to Oregon 55-49.

Monroe (12-3, 6-2 Badger South) got off to a slow start and trailed the Panthers 17-8 early in the second quarter. By halftime, the Cheesemakers brought themselves back into the game and trailed just 23-20.

Bryan Tordoff led Monroe (No. 8 Associated Press Division 2/No. 7 WisSports.net Coaches Poll) with 20 points. Michael Barrett had 10 and Austin Burandt added nine.

Oregon (11-5, 4-3) was led in scoring by Evan Ackers, who scored 17 points. Adam Gorman had 16 points for the Panthers and Cory Byrnes added 10. Byrnes and Ackers combined to hit six 3-pointers for Oregon, five of which came in the first half.

Both teams went into the third quarter tied at 38, but Oregon pulled away down the stretch.

The Panthers finished the game 13 of 17 from the free throw line, while Monroe was just 4 of 7 from the charity stripe.

The Cheesemakers get back into action tonight against the Freeport (Ill.) Pretzels in the annual Snack Bowl.
