Monroe Alumni tops Optimists No. 1

MONROE - The Monroe Alumni pounded out three hits and scored three runs in the first inning on its way to beating the Monroe Optimists No. 1, 5-3.

Kayla Rackow collected two hits and scored two runs to lead the Alumni team. Alyssa Montgomery, Kylie Kaiser, Coree Lee and Amy Buvid drove in runs for the Alumni.

Paisley Bennett scored two runs and Tasha Frie belted a run-scoring triple to lead the Optimists on offense. Kessica Beckman only allowed five hits, but picked up the loss.

In other Red League games, Orfordville defeated Brodhead 2-1, Orangeville topped Lena 7-2 and Durand upended Stockton 11-4.

In White League action, Brodhead scored three runs in the third and fifth innings to post an 8-1 win over Monroe Optimists No. 2. Michelle Wiesenberg singled to lead off the sixth and scored Monroe's only run. Ellie Shuda struck out five, but took the loss for Monroe.

In other White League games, Argyle defeated Albany 4-1 and Pecatonica ousted Juda 9-8 in eight innings.
