Monona Grove breezes by Monroe

MONONA - Sophomore Isaac Becker scored three goals to lead the Monona Grove boys soccer team to a 12-0 win over Monroe Tuesday.

The game was called in the 70th minute due to the mercy rule. With the loss, Monroe drops to 6-9-2 overall and 1-6 in the Badger South.

"It's the first time we have had in a while where the guys gave up and wanted to go home," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "It was wet and cold and it's like they threw in the towel. I don't know if they are worn down or what."

The Silver Eagles led 4-0 at the half and Monroe chose to rest some of its players. The Silver Eagles erupted for eight goals in the second half.

Monroe junior goalie Deven Schulte had 11 saves.

Monroe will find out its regional seed and postseason matchup Sunday.



Sugar River 10, Dodgeland 0

DODGELAND - Sugar River junior Jack Gentilli scored four goals to help the Raiders breeze past Dodgeland 10-0 Tuesday.

Sugar River (14-4-3, 8-1 Capitol Conference) outshot Dodgeland 15-0. The game was called in the 60th minute due to the 10-goal mercy rule.

"We did a great job of moving the ball around," Sugar River coach Kyle Webber said. "There was a lot of great distribution and some nice goals. The boys played well tonight."

Gentilli scored his first goal in the sixth minute on an assist by sophomore Charlie Douma. About nine minutes later, Matteo Latorre scored on a pass by Jared Widish to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.

Sugar River senior Brock Kelly scored two first half goals and junior Jaden Kreklow had one goal to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead at the half.

Widish scored on an assist from Kreklow in the 47th minute. Gentilli scored three goals in the second half. He recorded the hat trick on a goal off a pass from Kelly in the 53rd minute. Kelly finished the game with two assists.

The Raiders (8-1 Capitol Conference trail Wisconsin-Heights-Barneveld (8-0-1) by one point in the race for the conference title.
