ARGYLE - The Argyle softball team has played its share of tight games this season, and coach Dan Treuthardt said those experiences are beginning to pay off for the Orioles.
Sophomore Alysha Monohan ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday, lifting Argyle to a 2-1 victory against Barneveld in Six Rivers East Conference play.
Monohan's drive to right field drove home senior Danielle Treuthardt, who started the winning rally with a one-out double.
"We've been in a bunch of these tough ones and we've been losing them, but that's paying off for us now," Dan Treuthardt said. "You can see the confidence in the girls.
"In the bottom of the eighth inning, when the top of the order came up they weren't scared. I knew we had a good chance to win the game then."
Sophomore Jessica Treuthardt pitched a complete-game five-hitter, allowing one unearned run and recording five strikeouts while walking one. The coach said his pitcher worked out of a bases-loaded, no outs jam in the fourth.
Kristen Udelhofen pitched a six-hitter for Barneveld, with 11 strikeouts and three walks.
