MADISON - Monroe didn't have any champions Saturday at the annual Badger Conference tennis tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus. But that doesn't mean the Cheesemakers didn't come to play.

Senior Kristin McArdle finished third overall. McArdle lost to Fort Atkinson's Lexie Weigand 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals, but defeated Sydney Kirsh of Madison Edgewood 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) for third.

At No. 2 singles, junior Ellie Shuda knocked off Waunakee's Tilly Chorney 6-3, 6-3 to get into the championship. Edgewood's Sara Murphy then knocked off Shuda in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Junior Lily Priewe, the top seed in No. 3 singles, came back from down a set to defeat Sauk Prairie's Amy Lang in the semifinals 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. In the championship, Priewe lost to Edgewood's Courtney Burke 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 4 singles, senior Alyssa Quinn lost her semifinal match to Fort Atkinson's Briana Jackson 6-4, 6-2. Quinn then took care of business against Sauk Prairie's Lexy Kittle 6-1, 6-1.

Kelsey Erickson and Brooke McBain finished second in the No. 1 doubles. The duo defeated Waunakee's top pair 6-2, 6-2 before losing against Madison Edgewood 6-3, 7-6.

The Cheesemakers will now have a week to practice before subsectionals Oct. 4.
