MHS has sights on regionals

MOUNT HOREB - Steve Christensen used Monday's regular-season finale to calibrate his pitching staff's scope.

The Cheesemakers fell victim to a 6-run Vikings rally in the sixth inning and lost, 8-5, but the Monroe skipper just wanted to see where all his arms are at this late juncture.

"We used this game to fine tune some pitching for the regional tournament," Christensen said.

Senior Jake Teasdale started and lasted two hitless innings. Sophomore Cory Kundert followed with two innings, giving up a run in both and junior Mitch Tordoff threw a scoreless fifth, before relievers ran into a sixth-inning meltdown.

Monroe's relievers walked five in the frame after Scott Kline's base-clearing triple and Mike Rear's RBI-double gave Monroe a 5-2 lead.

But, back to the bottom line.

"Everyone played and hopefully some people can contribute on Friday if called upon," Christensen said.

Teasdale also had three hits and scored twice as Monroe wraps up its regular season at 4-12. The Cheesemakers host Big Foot Friday at 4:30 to open WIAA Division 2 regional play.
