MADISON - The Monroe No. 1 doubles team of senior Kelsey Erickson and junior Brooke McBain advanced to the second round of the WIAA Division 1 state tournament.
Erickson and McBain defeated Green Bay Preble's Joselyn Robertson and Madeline Baretta 6-0, 6-2 Thursday.
"They played one of the most solid matches of the season," Monroe coach Stephanie Miller said. "They were both very aggressive at the net and left little weaknesses for their opponents."
Erickson and McBain will play Janesville Craig's Maggie Bolton and Taylor Storbakken in the second round today at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
