MILWAUKEE - According to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee athletic website, former Monroe High School athlete Holly Nearman kicked off her senior track and field season with a bang.
Nearman broke a school-record run during the Raleigh Relays last weekend in North Carolina. She broke her own record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:42.51, over five seconds faster than her previous mark and is good for the 12th best time in the nation.
The senior was named Horizon League Track Athlete of the Week after the feat.
Nearman will skip the team's next scheduled meet at the Big Blue Classic, hosted by Eastern Illinois, this weekend for the sunny skies in Gainesville, Fla, for the Florida Relays.
